Low cost, big fun

In today’s modern society it can be easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you have to spend a lot of money to find good entertainment. Here are some ideas for fun things you can do without breaking the bank.

The Staycation

When you get the travel bug but don't have the room in your budget, consider a staycation. What are some things you have access to right in your own area you don't normally treat yourself to? Spend the money you saved on the flight and hotel at a nice restaurant, horseback riding, hot air ballooning, or a night of performing arts.

Backyard camping

Can't get away for the whole weekend? Pitch a tent in the backyard, make S’mores, and grab some flashlights and a good book. If you've got kids they will love the experience regardless of the location. 

Visit the library

Thumbing through interesting books for an hour or two can be a great escape from the house, and it doesn't cost a dime to just browse.

Ingredient party

Making a meal for a large group can be costly, but if each group brings one or two essential ingredients it's much more reasonable, and now everyone can pitch in on the cooking. 

Board games

Instead of spending $40 at the movie theater consider a new board game, which you can enjoy for hours, and then when you've had enough you can trade games with a neighbor.
